Lighting the Street Lights

In an older time, the lamp post served as means to light a traveler's path.  Today, lamp posts maintain the same function, yet modernity has made these simple little structures somewhat inconspicuous.  In our time, people no longer walk along the street guided by lamp posts, they walk along the street guided by a smartphone.

Thus, my new online guide, The Lamp Post.  Welcome!  The purpose of this online guide is to inspire you and to converse with you about pop culture.  I hope to share the aspects of pop culture that I love with my readers and inevitably create a comprehensive guide for those of you who, well, like the same stuff same I do.

Initially the blog will focus on serialized television (aka as television recaps) and literature/books.  Here and there I may choose to write about travel, film, a little fashion, a restaurant review here and there, and maybe a post or two about tennis (my favorite sport).  This guide originates in a small border town in Southern Texas, and my hope is to also provide information about interesting independently owned small businesses and restaurants, and other activities that could hopefully be enjoyed by readers residing in my local community.

My goal is to regularly post on Mondays (dedicated solely to television recaps as you will see why below), Wednesdays (books, film, etc.) and Fridays (Vampire Diaries Recap and Miscellaneous).  As the new fall television season is already upon us, I won't be recapping new shows, but will begin with recapping the following:

1) Once Upon A Time (Season Two premieres Sunday, September 30)
2) The Vampire Diaries (Season Four premieres Thursday, October 11)
3) Homeland (Season Two premieres Sunday, September 30)
4) Revenge  (Season Two premieres Sunday, September 30)
5) Downton Abbey (Season Three premieres in USA - January, 2013)

Serialized television that I also watch and am open to posting about when a crazy twist or cliffhanger occurs, include the following:  Person of Interest, Fringe, Sherlock, Modern Family, Hawaii Five-O, Hart of Dixie, The Walking Dead, and Newsroom.  Game of Thrones will have full-blown recaps when it returns next March.

Premiere televisions shows that I intend to watch or have started watching include Elementary, Nashville, Last Resort, Revolution and Triple Scary Digit Park Avenue.

The takeaway from all of this is that I watch a significant amount of television, due in part to my DVR, but when I'm not absorbing scintillating drama, I am absorbed in a book, so we'll talk about many books as well.

But back to The Lamp Post, I chose this name because I felt it fitting.  Along with lighting people's paths to find their way, people also stop at lamp posts to figure out which way to go. So I hope this blog helps you find a new TV show to watch, a new book to read, a new place to visit or eat, a film to see, or a song to sing.  I'm not a guru, nowhere near, but I can be a conspicuous lamp post.  Now that all of the "legalese" is out of the way: Hello my name is Heather, and I will be your lamplighter.
